The 29th Annual Gala of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California (SABA-NC), held on April 4, 2025, at the San Francisco Design Center, was more than an event—it was a reunion, a celebration, and a powerful affirmation of what a strong, values-driven professional community can achieve.
As a Life Member and former Board Member, attending this gala was deeply meaningful. As a sponsor through Evergreen Valley Law Group (EVLG), it also marked our firm’s continued commitment to supporting organizations that lead with purpose and foster inclusion within the legal profession.
A Reunion of Peers, Mentors, and Friends
Returning to the SABA-NC Gala this year felt like coming full circle. The room was filled with familiar faces—peers who’ve grown into leaders, mentors who helped shape my early career, and rising stars who represent the future of our profession. We shared stories, laughs, career updates, and more than a few nostalgic memories from past board meetings and community events.
It was especially moving to reconnect with those who have contributed so much to SABA-NC’s legacy and ongoing success. The energy in the room reminded me just how special and resilient this community is.
A Legacy of Support and Empowerment
My connection to SABA-NC runs deep. I served on the Board and co-chaired the Pro Bono Committee for two years. During that time—and even more so early in my career—SABA-NC was a lifeline. The organization introduced me to colleagues, mentors, and hiring managers, opened doors during my job search, and gave me space to grow both professionally and personally.
For so many of us, SABA-NC is more than a professional association. It’s a launchpad. A support system. A collective voice.
Mentorship That Comes Full Circle
Recently, I was mentoring a young lawyer who reminded me of myself at the start of my journey. I found myself recounting the critical role that SABA-NC played in my growth—not just with intros and leads, but through confidence-building, connection, and community. It’s gratifying to now be in a position to give back, and I continue to be inspired by the next generation of South Asian legal professionals who are bold, brilliant, and unapologetically ambitious.
A Shoutout to This Year’s Leaders and Organizers
This year’s event was flawlessly executed and filled with great energy. I was especially thrilled to see Koney Vishakan step into her new role as President of SABA-NC. Her leadership, insight, and authenticity are exactly what the moment calls for. I wish her the very best as she steers the organization into its next chapter.
It was also a pleasure to catch up with friends and colleagues Madhuri Nemali, Raji Nagarkar, and Priya Sanger, all of whom are making incredible contributions to the legal field and to SABA’s ongoing success. The leadership and dedication across this group of women is both inspiring and contagious.
EVLG’s Ongoing Commitment to Inclusion and Community
At Evergreen Valley Law Group, we believe in investing in organizations that empower underrepresented voices in law. Sponsoring the SABA-NC Gala was an easy decision, but it’s about more than visibility. It’s about aligning with missions that matter—diversity, access, advocacy, and excellence.
We are proud to support the next generation of legal professionals and grateful to be part of a community that uplifts and includes.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Optimism
SABA-NC’s 29th Annual Gala reminded me just how far we’ve come and how far we still intend to go—together. As the legal industry continues to evolve, the values this organization stands for remain timeless: mentorship, representation, collaboration, and the belief that we rise higher when we rise together.
Here’s to another year of progress, purpose, and connection.
