In mid-May, we celebrated a milestone that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant. Our daughter, Trisha Venkatesh, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. As she walked across the stage at Rausser College of Natural Resources, earning her B.S. in Environmental Sciences with a minor in Data Science, I felt that familiar mix of pride, nostalgia, and hope for what lies ahead.

The ceremony was filled with energy and promise, as commencement speakers reminded the Class of 2025 of the world that awaits them. One moment in particular stayed with me—Daniel Lubetzky, founder of KIND Snacks and a former Shark Tank investor, shared this simple truth:

“Youth is just a state of mind, not a number.”

Lubetzky, a Mexican-American entrepreneur and the son of a Holocaust survivor, built KIND Snacks into a global brand while championing social entrepreneurship and bridging divides. His message to the graduates emphasized the superpowers of youth: grit, fearlessness, creativity, and, most importantly, love. He encouraged the Class of 2025 to harness these qualities as they step into the world, ready to tackle its challenges and opportunities.

Reflections

Watching these graduates prepare to step beyond the campus cocoon and into the real world, I couldn’t help but reflect on what I would have told my 21-year-old self.

When you’re starting—with a job, a career, or a clean slate—you get to decide what version of yourself you’ll bring into the world. And if you’re lucky, that version will still make you proud 30 or 40 years down the line.

Hustle. It’s what sets you apart—not just in ambition, but in integrity, curiosity, and a willingness to show up fully. Bring your authentic self into everything you do. Look for opportunities to add value, contribute meaningfully, and continue learning.

That’s what I hope for Trisha and every graduate stepping into this next chapter: a career and a life defined not just by success, but by purpose and presence.

Trisha Venkatesh

Trisha is now exploring opportunities that align with her passion for sustainability and data-driven solutions. She is particularly interested in roles that intersect environmental science with data analytics, sustainable consulting/strategy, or sustainability-focused finance. Her goal is to contribute to initiatives that drive positive environmental impact through informed decision-making and strategic planning.

To Trisha—may your journey be bold, your values be steady, and your impact be unmistakable.
